Who Is Your Local Rep?
Eight representatives, every one a qualified SQP, and most of them still farming themselves. Find the one who covers your ground and ring the mobile — the numbers are all on this page.
It Is Not a Sales Call
A rep comes to the farm, walks the stock with you and looks at the ground they are on. Most of the conversation is about what is in front of you — condition, the stage of the season, what went wrong last year and whether it is about to go wrong again. Ordering comes at the end of it, if at all.
Because every one of them is a qualified SQP, that conversation can include animal medicines: what is licensed for the job, what the legal category means, and what fits the health plan you already have with your vet. Ring the one who covers your ground. You do not need to go through the office.
The Eight Territories
Listed roughly north to south. If your ground sits on a boundary, ring either — they sort it out between themselves.
Every One of Them Is an SQP
SQP stands for Suitably Qualified Person — an animal medicines adviser registered with AMTRA, who sits exams and keeps the qualification current through continuing professional development. It is what allows them to advise on and supply POM-VPS and NFA-VPS medicines.
It matters for a plain reason: an SQP is allowed to have the conversation before the sale. Somebody without the qualification can take your order. Ours can ask why you are ordering it, and say so if the answer does not stack up. Ayr, Kinross, Lanark & Stirling each have more than one SQP on the counter too, so you are never waiting on a visit to get an answer.
Questions We Are Asked
Who is my local McCaskie rep?
Find your area in the list on this page — Stirling & Perthshire, Central, Fife, Edinburgh & the Borders, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and South West Scotland — and ring the mobile beside it. If you are not sure which side of a boundary you are on, ring either.
What is an SQP?
A Suitably Qualified Person: an animal medicines adviser registered with AMTRA, examined and kept current through continuing professional development. Every one of our reps holds it, and so does somebody on the counter in each of the four stores.
Do I need an account before a rep will come out?
No. Ring the rep who covers your ground and they will come and see you. If you want an account afterwards they will sort that out with you.
Will they come out if I am only a small unit?
Yes. A lot of the farms our reps are on are not big ones, and a smallholding with twenty ewes has the same worm and fluke questions as a farm with a thousand.
Can a rep supply medicines at the farm?
They can advise on and supply the categories an SQP is qualified for. Anything that needs a vet's prescription goes through your vet — and for how much and how often, ask the SQP with the product in front of them rather than taking it off a website.
My ground is not on the list. What then?
Ring Stirling on 01786 474 481 and they will tell you straight who covers you, or whether we do. It is better than guessing.
If you would rather start at a counter than on the phone, each of the four stores — Ayr, Kinross, Lanark & Stirling — has more than one qualified SQP. Family-run from Stirling since 1957.
Not sure who covers you? Ring 01786 474 481 and ask.
